Department of Horticulture deals with the cultivation and development of fruits, vegetables , flowers and mushrooms. One of the few entities having an office of its own and that too in scenic environment of the Kamra Bagh , the department is handled by an Assistant Director Horticulture at District level . With a Government Garden & Nursery, Landscape Unit and Community Canning Center as its exalted assets; catering to the needs of true –to-type , disease-free fruit plants and ornamentals , quality vegetables seeds , processing of horticultural produce and training & extension services are the mainstay of the department .
The main objective of the department is to provide technical know how, innovations , latest findings in the field of horticulture to the farmers so that able to produce quality produce to combat the challenges of globalization in the changing scenario.
Department provides disease free , true to type healthy planting material to the farmers through its nurseries . The department has community canning center in which free training is given about home scale preservation of jam , squash , pickle , sauce , preserve etc.
At district level Assistant Director Horticulture is the head of the department who controls various schemes / activities of the department at block level Horticulture Development Officer is responsible to implement various schemes / programmers of the department at field level .
- Providing Extension services & Technical guidance regarding Horticulture Crops i.e. Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers & Mushroom Cultivation.
- Implement various Govt. schemes for the development of horticulture.
- Maintainance of Fruit Orchard & propagation of different fruit plants for sale to farmers & public.
- Maintainance of Fruit Orchard & propagation of different ornamental plants & seasonal flowers seedlings for sale to public.
- Training about preservation of fruits & Vegetables
- Subsidy on fruit plants & garden tools.
- To implement various projects under National Horticulture Mission Programme.
